I've recently experienced problems with my R4i card so I purchased a new micro SD HC insert. I downloaded the applicable software from R4i.co.uk & loaded my games however, now when I put the card in my DSi the loading screen appears with the message "Please upgrade the hardware for support latest firmware" over the top of it. I have since loaded the relevant kernel as well, but the message still appears.
Do I need the software & the kernel? How do I fix my R4i card?
Any feedback would be really appreciated.

The best I can do for now is describe it to you -
When I select the R4 card option, a black screen appears with the following -
WWW.R4I-SDHC.COM
Loading... then across the front of the word loading it says Please upgrade the hardware for support latest firmware
The details on the front of the R4 card are -
R4i Upgrade Revolution for DS (NDSi/NDSL/NDS) www.r4i-sdhc.com
The label is black & silver
The micro card inside is a micro SDHC 4GB from Kingston
Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice Cliff. I wiped the card clean & followed the 4 step instructions posted on the forum & was successful!
I now have the problem that only a small percentage of the games that I have loaded on the card will work. When I click on the ones that won't, one of two things happens -
a box appears which says "save to file" and the screen locks so you have to restart the DS or The game goes to loading screen, but the loading bar stops approx 3/4 of the way along & nothing happens.
Any bright ideas?

Problem solved - all that was required was some patience! After my sister suggested that I let the game "save to file", I noticed that there was an incremental bar which saved the game to file & then automatically loaded it - there are a couple of games that take a while to load, but with some patience, they open perfectly

Hi Danny
I would suggest that you do as I did & use the "Download Process for R4i Upgrade card (SDHC) steps 1-4 which can be found on this forum. This sorted my problem.
Good luck!

I inadvertantly updated my DSi to version 1.4e and had the same message coming up on my R4i Gold card. I downloaded the "R4i V1.34b" English version of software from www.r4i-gold.eu. loaded this to the micro sd card and all worked fine.

The "R4i V1.34b" is not available anymore. I've tried 1.35b and get the update message all the time

I recently updated after receiving sytem date error which I could get round by changing the date back to 2009. It seems to do the same for the update hardware message. I changed date back to 2009 and no update hardware message.

Hi All
First time user to forum.
I am trying to re format an r4i card but so far have had no luck. I deleted the original data as the games would not play. I have no original packaging as it was bought as a mutli game card. I only know its an r4i by opening the cartridge. the board is red in colour if that is any help?
I have the above message appear when I turn on my r4i.
Please Help!!?
Many Thanks
Danny

Hi Grover.
Would you be able to post a screenshot of your r4i card with the message displayed?

Please note that SDHC stands for "Secure Digital High Capacity", all SD/Micro SD cards with a capacity between 4-32GB have this classification. This should not be the cause of the error.
Please confirm the manufacturers URL, this should be written on the card and provide the title of the DS card and I will look into it for you

Thank you for that. It would sound by the error that the software version on your DSi has been upgraded to the 1.4.1 version. Please can you confirm this? You can check this by selecting the spanner icon. The version will be displayed on the top screen in the bottom right hand corner

It should come down as a zipped file and should be in your "Downloads" folder...

Ok lets see if I can help.
The bets thing to do is back up all of your personal files somewhere safe on your computer then format the micro sd card to FAT32. You can do this using the windows formatter or the SD association formatter - http://www.r4dscards.co.uk/Forum/Topic84-4-1.aspxWhile this is in progress got to the manufacturers website of your DS card ( this should be clearly written on your card) and download the latest version of the software. After formatting complete unzip the download file and transfer all of the files and folders as they appear. Do not put nay of your own files on to the micro SD card at this stage. Check that the date and time is set correctly on your console and carefully insert the card. Turn your console on. If this does not work at this stage please let me know the error message you are getting. If it does work then yippee! you can start putting a few of your personal files onto the micro SD card. Test the card at regular stages to ensure all of the files remain compatible. Good luck
