I bought an R4i Upgrade V1.4 (R4I-SDHC). I've already formatted, downloaded, extracted all files 3 times. Each time with the same result. I even went and bought a 4GB micr to replace my 1GB I already had. On both cards, the software is titled "Star Wars" on the DS menu, when I select it the R4I menu displays. When I select a game, "Saving Game File" appears and freezes the DS. I have tried it on both DS Lite, and DSi. Can anyone help?

I have a Sandisk, I started with a 1GB that I had from a while back, but went ahead and upgraded to a 4GB (Micro SD HC). It's loads software much faster, but it still looks like it freezes. I'll try puting it down, and see how long it takes to load. It'll suck if its anything longer than a minute though, because the purpose of starting up the DS/DSi is to play... Thanks for the posts.

Ok, I have tried with a 1 GB, 4GB, and now 8GB SD Micro HC...none have worked. I am hesitant to buy another R4 Card assuming this one is faulty... with costs, I could almost buy another system.

Brand micro SD = one is Kingston and another was delivered with the card (no brand) Any suggestions? PS: with an micro SD of 8GB i don't have this problem. Regards, Nico

Hi, I also have this problem. I've just purcased the card, it's the R4i upgrade,v1.4 (in a red box) I've reformatted the card as explained (i'm using a 2gb card unknown brand.) when I select the game it comes up 'create save file' then appears to have frozen, i've left it for several minutes and still nothing. My dd is desperate to play dsi which she got for her birthday (her first card was faulty so we are now on card 2) soI would be grateful if you could help many thanks leanne

Hi, I left the dsi switched on for over an hour this morning (may even have been longer as I forgot all about it!) nothing happened the screen stayed exactly the same. I know I'm loading the software correctly as I've used R4 cards before, I've downlaoded the lastest software from r4i-sdhc.com. I've ordered a sandisk 4gb card today to see if that sorts it out but if you have any other ideas I would be really grateful. Fingers crossed the new card will work. thanks

Hi - I'm new here so might be posting in the wrong location........... Anyway - I've been reading the comments about R4i freezing (it seemed like when the card was saving) and some happy conclusions came from replacing the card. I'm not sure if I have quite the same problem as my card doesn't freeze on saving. It freezes with the grey loading band about a quarter of the way from the end - but only with about half of my games!! - which is too many! I bought the R4i upgrade because it stated 100% compatibility with Games. My old R4 Revolution (maybe even fake) played everything I put on it with no problem ( apart from Bookworm which by all accounts is a problem with many cards) On the R4i the GUI works great with some nice skins and wifi upgrade etc ( It updated me to version 1.16) but the problem is the same with 1.15 or 1.16. I didn't want to lose the nice options but seems the old Revolution is a much worthier contender Any ideas? Do you think it could still be a memory problem?

Hi Hmmm I wish I didn't have to admit that I AM using a Kingston card The game loading band freezes close to the end where it should start to run. It will not eventually start by the way. Unfortuneatly I didn't want to have to shell out for a different memory card so I guess I'll have to wait for the rumoured version 2.0 kernel which apparently addresses issues like this or until someone I know has a card I can try with it. Thanks for replying though - I'll keep an eye open on the forum Regards G

Hi (again) Yes I am using the 4 gb card - so maybe I ought to try getting my hands on a 2gb to see if it makes the difference. You know, I have been around the houses looking up info on the R4i and unfortunately I can't find the site I referred to - sorry! However I'm sure it mentioned it was bringing out a ver 2.0 because of problems encountered by R4i users - it is supposed to be rewritten code and will/should be out 14/02/2010 (not too long to wait ) If I find the site again I'll let you know Regards G

If I can try a new memory card in the meantime, I'll let you know if it worked. Regards G (must remember I don't need this G, as it adds it anyway lol )

Hi
First of all the fact that it shows as Star Wars is by design so don;t worry about that - this is just a way that the R4i manufacturers get around the latest DSi 1.4 firmware.
Are you sure it completely freezes the DS? If you leave it along time does the game actually load? We have heard reports of some micro sd cards taking ages to load games - you think it has frozen but its just taking along long time to load.
What is the brand of micro sd you are using? Sandisk is the recommended brand for R4 cards.

We have heard that Kingston cards have an issue with performance in some instances - and it depends where the Kingston card was manufactured - Japan or Tawian. Strange but true!
We have not tried this but the work around we have been advised is to format the card using the official SD association formatter. For instructions please read this: Formatting your Micro SD
Can you give this a try? Let us know what you find...

Do your games eventually load if you leave them for a while? Its unusual fore this to happen on a 2GB card - can you let me know if they do load - eventually?

Yeah - a new micro sd card may be the answer. Its difficult to say what could be the issue - I know certain Kingston cards (usually 4GB Taiwan Kingston) can be very slow to load games. Can you let me know if the 4GB card fixes the issue for you?

Hi again,
Make sure you set your router wireless mode to b&g - also if you are using WPA-PSK security you need to use advanced network setup on your DSi :-)

Hi GaryTheBloke,
Welcome to the forums! :-)
When you say that the game loading freezes, if you leave it long enough, does it eventually load? Some files are larger than others, and the larger ones can take a while to load. This is a known issue with certain memory cards. We have heard that it there is a particular problem like this with Kingston 4GB Cards. |What brand of memory card do you have?

Glad we helped a little - what have you heard about the new version 2.0 kernel - is it rumoured to fix the slow loading issue?
Is it a 4GB card you are using? 2GB Kingston cards are fine by all accounts.
When you say it does not load eventually - how long have you left it - have you left it a full 5 minutes?

I've just read that article - I think they are bringing out a new hardware card (New R4i card) that will use version 2.0 kernel. So you may not be able to use it on your existing R4i.

Can you not return the one you purchased to the retailer you bought it from? I really think that after all you have tried the R4 itself must be faulty...
