First off, I thank you  Smile very much for creating and maintaining the site, as well as replying to people's question.  All of this R4 Nintendo DS is new to me, though I have pick up much knowledge about  the cards in the past month.

For my 2 children, I dropped the dime and  purchased 2 R4i Upgrade Revolution (http://www.r4i-sdhc.com/indexe.asp) and 2 R4i King LL  (http://www.r4-king.com/).  I also purchase 2 8GB SDHC San Disk memory.

I have to admit, I did also screwed up and purchase 4   ---- 4GB SDHC that was not a MICRO card which rendered somewhat useless to the R4.  The 4gb served well for the extended memory in the DSI to hold Music and Photos.

I have had all sorts of problems as a newbie; from game load hang to corrupt Memory.  I read your replies on game load hang due to memory brand and what have you, though I did not see you mentioned about Hanging because of "Size."

My R4i card are designed for SDHC beyond that of 2 gigs...

Here is the deal, upon initial game load from the first installation when the R4 wrote to the memory....... the whole 8 gig became corrupted as a whole.  We are speaking about new memory here.  There is not a high chance in hell, but I think the R4 can corrupt the memory stick.  The memory is a San Disk SD HC...... I have slow formatted the memory a couple time without any resolutioins at all.

Since this happen, I had a cell phone standard 1 Gb SD that I used in lieu of the screwed up 8gig without any problems whatsoever.  Mind you, this standard 1gb is not a SDHC.

This brings me to my next point..... the other 8gb in a different DSi was working well until I added more games on yesterday.  Once you boot into the R4 memory, the list did not show the 51 games anymore.  These 51 games entail 3.5GB of space.   I proceeded to format the memory and stock it with only 5 games for testing.  My son have not had a problem with it since yesterday.

This brings me to these points that you may be able to chime in on:

1. R4i SDHC cards may hang and get corrupted on writing to larger Memory GB cards that entail many files.
2.  It's not advisable to hold many files on these memory card even though they are SDHC.
3.  You are safer going with a lower memory and a regular SD Micro Memory card even though the R4 calls for SDHC.

Whatever you can chime in to what I mentioned above be super for me and many others. Wink

Matthew

Hi,

Thanks for your kind comments :-)  We do our best to help people as we know these cards are a bit of a nightmare at times!!

We have had people mention issues with large memory cards such as your 8GB card.  There is something you can try, try putting your files into sub folders so as to split up the amount of files in any one directory.  We have heard that this can rectify the issue for some cards.

Also make sure you are using the latest firmware from the manufacturer.

We generally would not recommend cards above 4GB, but not because of corruption etc, more to do with usability.  How many files can you actively be using at any one time?  The cheaper 4GB card should hold every file you will probably actually use through a prolonged amount of time.  Once a file is no longer used, take it off the card and replace it if needed.

Many Thanks
