Hi. Thanks for this great resource.

I have a few questions that I can't seem to get a solid answer for. Excuse me if these are common knowledge.

1) My understanding is that in order for the R4i card to work properly, it will need to match the firmware of my DSI XL? My R4i Card says v1.4 on the box, so does that mean my DSI XL needs to have v1.4 firmware? If so, how do I find out the firmware version of my DSI XL? I went through the menus and couldn't find anything obvious.

2) If that's the case, where do I find the 1.4 software? Your tutorial page actually has a broken link, but I figured the page to be here... http://www.r4sdhc.com/down.asp ...but I don't see any reference to v 1.4 software there (assuming that's what I need anyway) - only these ones:

R4i v2.10T and r4 SDHC v2.10T Kernel upgrades to v2.10T02
R4i SDHC Kernel upgrades to v2.07
R4 SDHC Kernel upgrades to v1.34

1.34 is the closest. Do I just use that? FYI I tried 2.07 for a stab in the dark and it didn't work.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

You are kind of right, you need to use an R4i card that is 1.4 compatible.  When Nintendo released the latest 1.4 firmware for their DSi (Which is installed by default for the DSi XL).  It resulted in all R4 cards being made defunct.  The R4 manufacturers responded by releasing versions of their cards that are 1.4 compatible.  These days all R4/R4i cards are 1.4 compatible.  They put 1.4 on the card itself to distinguish between R4i cards that were compatible and those that were not.  These days some don;t even bother putting 1.4 on their R4i cards as this is now standard.

The firmware you need to install onto your micro sd card does not have to be version 1.4.  There is no link between the firmware version of your DSi XL and the version you need to use for your R4i. You just need to go to the URL printed on your R4i and download the latest version for your card.

Many Thanks

Thanks for that. Then there seems to be a problem. I've downloaded the latest version here: http://www.r4i-sdhc.com/downloade.asp (R4i English V1.21b Date:[2010-5-6]), unzipped the files to my microsd card and placed it in the R4i card. I've then placed the R4i card in the DSIXL and booted, but it just goes to the normal screen. It ignores the card completely.

The card I have looks exactly like the the one shown here: http://www.r4i-sdhc.com/images/gif1.gif (It's the R4i Upgrade with the 1.4 star).

Just to be clear in the instructions, it's as simple as:

1) Extract the zipped files to the Microsd Card (its a Kingston MicroSD HC 8gb)
2) Place the MicroSD card into the R4i card
3) Place the R4i card into the DSIXL
4) Switch it on and the custom R4i menu should appear

If I've missed something please let me know. If I haven't, then I'd suggest this doesn't actually work for everyone for whatever reason.

Fangs in advance.

Hi Noncon,

We do get, more than we should, similar complaints where the R4i card is simply not recognised in the R4i.  I think this is a manufacturing issue with the cards and it seems likely that your R4i card is faulty.  Even with mno Micro Sd card inserted into the R4i you should still see the R4i Icon (Star Wars Lethal Alliance) when you turn on your Dsi.  If you do not get this far even then the R4i is faulty.

Many Thanks

Hi
i have just bought a dsi xl and r4isdhc card and downloaded the new kernel v2.07, extracted the 3 directories and 3 files to my sd card together with a couple of .nds files. When I switch on, the star wars game appears as an icon and when i hit start it moves upwards toward the 'fixed' screen. At this point the fixed screen is white and the lower (stylus) screen remains black. Can you p[lease help
Thank you

card is r4isdhc v2.0 (firmware 1.4) and files were downloaded from www.r4isdhc.com

did you remember to format the sd card? You got the red card right? did you try to run an early kernel like the 1.14 and work your way up from there. thqat ver 2.07 is htere still in  beta testing. i would recomend trying one of the older ver and seeing if that works. dont forget to format that sd card.if still a no go could you tell us what kind of sd card you have? whats the number in the circle say?

Good news - it works but there seems to be a file missing. I have created a folder called games in the root directory of my mc and copied a few .nds files to this directory. when i run, the games directory appears (although i think that i should see 3 icons for games, music etc but dont) in the list and when i try to start the game, the bottom screen goes blank and the top one shows a msdos type screen implying that the system has stopped. am i putting the games files in the right place and is it something to do with the missing file.

file missing is _ds_menu.dat

Also, the r4isdhc.com site does not seem to have any previous kernel files for my specific card than v2.06. Would other sites have the same kernels that would work with my card?  R4isdhc v2.0 happy box (red)

Please can you help
