hi, im new here, hope to get some help.
i recently purchased an r4i upgrade revolution for DS.
downloaded the latest kernel [v1.09b] from www.r4i-sdhc.com
i got moonshell v2 onto my card
no issues so far, and i transferred my music and stuff over to my micro sd of 2gb
in fact i played games [pokemon diamond] without errors
media function was all ok.
until recently, when i booted my ds and selected the r4,
suddenly it gave a picture of the card that writes "error"
no other message is given.
i tried another sd my friend uses for his ds and it gave a " menu? " which may mean that his r4 might have been different.
my point being, i was wondering whether it is my r4 or microsd that is problematic.
my ds lite is fine as it runs off original cartridges.
help is appreciated! thanks!

Hi Lolly,
Its difficult to say if the fault lies with the micro sd or the R4 card itself. To test this try the following:
1) Put your micro sd card into a card reader on your PC
2) Copy all the files back top your PC (So you have a backup)
3) Format the card using the SD card association formatter
4) Re-load the kernel (Use a new copy not the one you copied off in step 1)
5) Test the card without any files to see if you gain access to the menu.
If that all works with no errors then the SD card is ok. If you get an error still in step 5, then it is likely to be your R4 card that is faulty. The reason is that if the micro sd is faulty I would expect you to have errors at some point through step 1 to 4.

hi thanks for your quick response!
i actually retried the above method for my 2gb card without any help.
then i took my old 512mb card and did the same exact method using the same kernel and it worked.
basically that meant that my micro sd card is faulty right?
i am quite shocked actually, for i have been using it a wk ago on my r4 without any difficulty, until i recently switched it on to find it had gone wrong.
do u think there is any solution to correct the problem my 2gb card has?
accessing it via computer is totally error free :/

but for the card to suddenly not work.. after a few days of not using doesnt make sense ><
and it only puzzles me further to know that it works fine when being accessed via a com.
and my r4 is working fine [i think..]
i was hoping that there'd be a way to format my sdcard/correct the issue.
oh anyw, would it do good to fine alternative menus to bootup the card?

hi basicly i tryed the metherd it says and my dsi still cums up with error message and askes me 2 turn off my dsi i tryed formattin the sd card still nuthink i even tryed 2 differnt sd card and different r4 car and still same messsage can u plz help

what kind of r4 card is this and whats the url or web site on the card or box it came in. what kind of icon do you havae danny phantom, starwars

This happened to my sons DSi last night. ERROR
R4i SDHC red box, 8gb card, loaded up on Mac OSX.
The card would not be read by the Mac, the message was it was unformatted.
It asked if I wanted the card formatted, I clicked yes.
Reloaded the Firmware and games.
Put it in the DSi and got MENU?
Took it into Windows, (VMWare) Windows said card not formatted, erased card and formatted it as default FAT 32
Loaded games and it works......
Funny thing is the Main menu graphics changed, it used to have a smily face for games (now game controller icon) etc not as slick as when all was loaded with the Mac.....

from all the things that i have read the r4 wants the sd card to be formatted with windows glad to have your info on this forum
