It sounds as though the software currently installed on your console is of a later version to the one the R4i 3DS was intended. Nintendo recently updated to the v1.4.3 software and blocked these cards. Please confirm what your console is running on? The good news is that some manufacturers have produced a fix to work around this. Please let me know the manufacturer of your card (URL) and I will look into this and give you the best possible advice.
Many Thanks

I have today upgraded my DSi XL to Ver 1.4.3E, I received my R4 3DS card today from http://www.r4-r4.co.uk and followed the instructions carefully, downloading the latest software by logging into my account etc.
When I insert the card in the DSi XL and switch it on and click on the Dsiney/Pixar Finding Nemo Escape to the Big Blue THQ is the following message;
An error has occured Press and hold the POWER Button to turn the system off. Please refer to the Nintendo DSi Operaions Manual for details.
Regards

It sounds as though your console has a software version later than the R4i was intended. Please can you confirm the number in the yellow star on the front of your R4i? If this is an earlier version, for eg. v1.4.1 then your card will require "flashing" to make it compatible with the v1.4.3 software.
We have checked r4-r4.co.uk and they have a guide to help you through this - |

Hi Thanks for the reply
This is the card that I have purchased
http://www.r4-r4.co.uk/1158/R4/3DS-Card/
It doesn't have a yellow star on the front.
I follow all the instructions.
If using a DSi or DSi XL please select the DS card icon to enter your R4i home screen. When I do this I get the following message so never get to the R4i home screen.
An error has occured Press and hold the POWER Button to turn the system off. Please refer to the Nintendo DSi Operaions Manual for details.

As you have the R4i 3DS you wont have the yellow star this is correct. I can confirm that this update will work for your card though but you need to perform the update on an earlier console. This cannot be performed on your console with the v1.4.3 software installed. It needs to be done on a DSi or DSi XL running on v1.4.1 or earlier...not v1.4.2 or v1.4.3. ANY standard DS or DSlite will work fine.

I have not tried this, I will try to get my hands on a console running an earlier version of the OS and try it on that.
Thank you for your help.

I performed the update on an earlier console. I did it on a DS running on v1.4.1 or earlier.. The card now is recognised and boots up on my dsi XL and the wretched error message no longer appears.
Thank you for all your help, fantastic.
